While Saints general manager Mickey Loomis suggested Derek Carr will be back in New Orleans in 2025, that hasn’t stopped the team from exploring other options.

The Saints met with Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders this week while in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, according to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football. Ward and Sanders are widely considered to be the top two quarterbacks in April’s NFL Draft. New Orleans owns the ninth pick in the draft, so it remains to be seen if they would even have the opportunity to select either player.

Ward played the 2024 season at Miami where he was named ACC Player of the Year and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting. He began his career at Incarnate Word in 2020 where he played two seasons before transferring to Washington State for two seasons.

Sanders led the nation by completing 74 percent of his passes at Colorado in 2024. He was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Should Carr return to New Orleans, it would likely come with a contract restructure that would save the team $30.9 million against this year’s salary cap.
