Report: Saints add former head coach Scott Linehan to staff

New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore consistently hires former mentors. Monday’s latest coaching staff addition perfectly illustrates that trend.
Per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the Saints are adding former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator and St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan to their staff.
The Saints are hiring Scott Linehan to their staff, according to a source.
Linehan has a ton of experience. He was the HC of the Rams. An OC for Minnesota, Miami, Detroit, Dallas. Pass game coordinator for LSU. Most recently worked as an offensive analyst for Montana.

Linehan was the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys while Moore was a quarterback in the team’s roster. The hire feels similar to Moore’s addition of Brandon Staley as defensive coordinator, even though years ago their roles were reversed with Staley as the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach and Moore as his offensive coordinator.
Linehan has a lot of professional and collegiate experience. His role with the Saints is currently unknown, but filling the void at senior offensive assistant is certainly a possibility. That role was vacated with the departure of Rick Dennison to the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason.
Most recently, Linehan served as an offensive analyst for Montana. This will be a return to the pros for the veteran coach.
