The New Orleans Saints are set to be back in the quarterback market this offseason. While most have focused on the NFL Draft or young quarterback Spencer Rattler as options, free agency also offers a few possibilities for the Saints’ next starter.

One of the most popular options on the open market is former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers could be the passer the Saints turn to in order to try to rescue its most immediate ability to compete in 2025. However, there would be doubts around whether or not a marriage between the two would actually yield success. Instead, it may be too tumultuous a pairing for the Saints to handle.

The veteran quarterback has been embattled, at best, regarding his reputation in recent years, and the Saints are a team that feels like it’s on the brink of quarterback turmoil. The idea of those two meeting and helping one another achieve their goals in 2025 is a little hard to rectify.

Simply put, the Saints may not be in position to handle Rodgers. While a first-time, mild-mannered head coach like Kellen Moore can certainly have success in the NFL, that type of coach doesn’t typically find it with fractious, quarrelsome quarterbacks.

Instead, the team should focus on rolling with a quarterback in 2025 that has a real possibility to also take snaps in Moore’s system in 2026, allowing them to avoid any additional theatrics in the meanwhile.

The amount of drama and suspense that is already circulating the team could create an explosive environment if they added an enigmatic presence such as Rodgers. Additionally, giving new head coach Kellen Moore the chance to build his new team’s identity with a young quarterback that has a chance to be the franchise’s future may be the way to truly take advantage of this situation.
