Jelani Watkins clocked a 10.03 second 100 meter time Saturday at the Tom Jones Invitational. It is the sixth-fastest wind-legal time in LSU program history. Watkins is one spot behind another former two-sport star Trindon Holiday who is fifth with a 10.00 in 2009.
As Watkins crossed the finish line, he said, “Long Live K2,” a tribute to football teammate Kyren Lacy who died last week.

Watkins has already earned two SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season.
The 5-foot9, 163 pound freshman redshirted with LSU football in 2024. He saw action in two games without recording a statistic.
