LSU (34-7), ranked No. 4 by Baseball America, No. 5 by USA Today and No. 7 by D1Baseball, leads the all-time series against Northwestern State, 62-13. The Tigers have won 24 of the past 27 meetings, including a 6-5 victory last season in Baton Rouge.
Northwestern State (24-17) enters the matchup unranked and is coming off a series win over Lamar in Southland Conference play.
“We worked really hard last week, outside of just playing the games. The work was very intentional, so the day off (Sunday) gave us some time to reset and get back to work,” said LSU head coach Jay Johnson. “You can’t get through the schedule that we play without a few bumps in the road offensively; the pitching talent is too good. I thought we had a good week last week, three good wins, including one in comeback fashion and another in a close game. Those are important with what’s ahead of us.”
