Pelicans extend Trey Murphy’s contract

Trey Murphy III will be staying in New Orleans a few more years.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Trey Murphy III and the Pels have agreed on a four-year, $112 million contract extension on the deadline of the rookie extension window. The deal will begin with the 2025-26 season and does not include a player option.
The Pelicans selected Murphy, 24, with the 17th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He’s grown in his role as a three-point specialist with great length and athleticism. Last season, Murphy averaged 14.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game and shot 38 percent from three-point range.
Murphy joins Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons, Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors and Franz Wagner of the Orlando Magic in signing their rookie max extension deals.
