Alabama defensive tackle Jehiem Oatis announced Monday that he plans to sit out the rest of this season with a redshirt and enter the transfer portal. The news was first reported by ESPN and came on the heels of Alabama’s shocking loss to Vanderbilt this past Saturday.
Oatis was a key contributor for Alabama’s defense in his first two seasons in Tuscaloosa, but cited the primary reason for redshirting was playing just 25 combined snaps against Wisconsin and Georgia.

The 6-foot-five, 325-pound junior from Columbia, Mississippi, was a former four-star recruit and top-100 player nationally. He lost over 75 pounds his freshman year and earned a starting job in year one. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
