This was supposed to look different from the last few years. Or, at least from the last few games. Auburn took a 21-10 lead against Oklahoma into the fourth quarter, at home, against a freshman quarterback, and lost.

Not only did Auburn lose, but they lost in what is starting to become their own personal recurring nightmare. Auburn came into this game with the most turnovers of any team in the country including two games where they had five apiece. Auburn quarterbacks had combined for eight total interceptions so far this season, but through three quarters against Oklahoma they had none.

That changed with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, as Payton Thorne threw a pick six that Kip Lewis returned 63 yards for the go ahead score.

In year two under Hugh Freeze, this team was supposed to get better. The offense was certainly supposed to get better. But through five games, the Tigers are 2-3. And, they haven’t even played a road game yet. The self-proclaimed “quarterback whisperer,” Freeze falls to 8-10 overall as the head coach at Auburn.
