Cam Jordan believes healthy Saints team can be “top tier”

By Ross Jackson
Every NFL player should believe their team can be great. No matter last season’s results, the goal is always the same: compete for a Super Bowl. Even when a roster looks overmatched on paper, belief inside the building has to be real.
For New Orleans Saints’ defensive end Cameron Jordan, there’s never been a question about buy-in.
One of the team’s most important leaders, Jordan always fully believes in his teammates. Last offseason, the defender was predicting a Super Bowl win in his own home stadium. And despite the Saints’ 5-12 finish in 2024, Jordan believes in the potential of his squad again as the 2025 season approaches.
“I think we have a team where when healthy, top tier,” he said while on the set of NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. “Last year, went 2-0. You saw a healthy Rashid Shaheed, you saw Chris Olave. A healthy offensive line. You saw a team that was determined. Young guys coming off the edge, Chase Young, Carl Granderson. You had Bryan Bresee splashing this year. And then after the two games, that was about the last time you saw us all healthy.”
Jordan’s right about that being the last time the team was healthy. After that pair of games, injuries began to pile on for the team as it hit a seven-game losing streak.
It began with center Erik McCoy, without whom the team did not win a game in 2024, and continued across the offensive line, both top wide receivers and even the starting quarterback Derek Carr.
Jordan’s comments have received a lot of push back because of his never-wavering confidence in the team. And while the roster clearly has some opportunities for improvement this offseason as the NFL Draft nears, the players have no reason to believe anything less than their own ability to win.
It seems that the front office, at least publicly, feels the same way. Along with the flipping of the team’s coaching staff, much of the Saints’ roster is the same as 2025 with a few returns and additions. This signals that the team may feel that, at least for this year, incoming returns from injuries can serve as a bit of a free agency-like boost.
“There’s a place where we can still be happy,” Jordan said. “I wouldn’t say (as) hype as (the Chicago Bears), but we could be happy.”
Even in his confidence, Jordan’s goals are clear: compete and enjoy the success the team can find. He isn’t hanging a Super Bowl banner prematurely or casting shots at other competitors. But he clearly has a belief that his team can be a competitive one in 2025 if the roster can stay healthy.
