DeBoer says Tide offense is in infancy

During Wednesday’s weekly SEC Coaches Teleconference, Alabama head coach Kalen Deboer was asked about his offense and specifically how much of it we’ve seen through three games. Deboer had a very interesting response.
“There’s gonna be a lot of our offense that we will never install this year just because of the players that we have,” the first year head coach said. “There’s gonna be other elements of the system that we haven’t used as much maybe in the last few years that we will go draw upon.
“The plays are endless. There are endless pass plays. There are things that we’ve done. It’s a matter of what you’re drawing on and how you’re trying to evolve and utilize the skill of the players that you have here.”
Deboer inherited what was not only his most talented roster, but according to the 247Sports Composite Team Talent rankings, the most talented roster in the entire country. Alabama did lose over 40 players to the transfer portal, and Washington’s roster a year ago did have ten players drafted in April’s NFL Draft.
Even so, it is still very interesting to wonder how much of the offensive playbook he and his staff are not using strictly due to the roster fitting the scheme. It’s also intriguing as to why.
