LSU Sports Radio Network Broadcasts will be missing a familiar voice this fall.

Doug Moreau, a legend of LSU football, will step away from his color analyst role this season while recuperating from a recent surgery. Moreau has been a part of LSU’s broadcast team for 46 years including every season since 1988.

“Obviously, (Doug) has been doing games in one capacity or another, either radio or television, since 1972,” said Chris Blair, the play-by-play voice of the Tigers. “Doug is one of those great human beings that everybody should have the opportunity to know. And if you’re lucky you get to work with him. And so, we’re all just hoping he’s got a speedy recovery, and he’s back in the booth as soon as possible. Certainly going to miss him.”

Moreau, a 1965 all-American for the Tigers, will give way to another Tiger legend in Jacob Hester, a 2007 national champion. Hester filled in for the Tigers’ trip to Los Angeles to take on UCLA back in 2021. He expressed his genuine excitement in joining the broadcast team for a full season in 2024.

“Growing up, I never had the chance to attend a game in Tiger Stadium, but we definitely were an LSU household,” Hester said. “We’d all gather around the radio and listen to Jim (Hawthorne) and Doug on the LSU Sports Radio Network. I never dreamed that one day I would have the chance to try to fill the shoes of a legend like Doug Moreau.

“I consider it an honor and a privilege to sit in the same seat as someone who I have the utmost respect for and has been a part of the LSU broadcast for almost 50 years.”

The other two on-air pieces of the broadcast team will remain. Blair is entering his ninth year as the play-by-play voice of the Tigers, and Gordy Rush will maintain his role as sideline reporter.

“I’m going to miss working with Doug Moreau this season,” Rush said. “I had a great conversation with him earlier this week, and he was in high spirits. I’m looking forward to working with Jacob, which will be familiar territory after our years together on CST and at Guaranty Media. He did a great job when he filled in for Doug at UCLA in 2022 and we shouldn’t skip a beat.”

Kickoff between LSU and USC is set for 6:30 on Sunday. The LSU Sports Radio Network pregame show, LSU Gameday, will begin at 4:30.
