Musical chairs

The number one spot in the college baseball world has been one of the most consistently inconsistent things in the sport this season. It’s been occupied by an SEC team every week of the year, so far. However, which SEC team is occupying the top spot has been a revolving door. Texas became the latest team to be ranked No. 1 in the polls this week after Arkansas lost two of three to Georgia in Athens.

So far we’ve seen Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas, and Texas all ranked at No. 1. The latest polls feature four teams in the top five, once again, sandwiching Clemson at No. 3 with Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Arkansas being the metaphorical bread.

Bad weekend or sign of things to come

LSU was swept this weekend by Auburn for the first time since 1988. Here’s a list of things that were happening the last time the orange and blue Tigers swept the purple and gold ones in a baseball series:

The concern for LSU is that they’ve played three SEC series away from home this season. Not including the Missouri series, LSU is just 1-5. Here’s the good news even after the sweep: they are still ranked eighth in the country. They need to finish in the top 8 to secure a chance to host NCAA Super Regionals. This team is still really good and they should be fine, but being held to four total runs on Saturday and Sunday is definitely not a recipe for success.

Here comes Texas A&M

The preseason No. 1 team in America had a first half to forget to start their season. To be frank, it was like watching the movie Titanic in reverse. However, against all odds they’ve won seven of their last eight games, won two straight SEC series, and most impressive of all, the offense has scored 101 runs in those seven wins.
