Florida to Start 5-Star Freshman QB DJ Lagway

The DJ Lagway era will begin a little earlier than expected in Gainesville. The former 5 Star will get the start this Saturday vs Samford replacing injured QB Graham Mertz.
Lagway has arguably been one of the few bright spots for this program over the last calendar year. The crown jewel of the Gators 2024 recruiting class, Lagway was the No. 1 QB and No. 3 overall player in the On3 Composite.
Mertz exited Saturday’s game against Miami in the third quarter with a concussion and was replaced by the freshman. The 6-foot-3, 240 pound dual-threat quarterback was 3-for-6 for 31 yards with an interception and rushed four times for 20 yards.
Mertz has been unable to practice this week, leading head coach Billy Napier to announce the switch under center.
