Former Tiger Kicker Traded to Washington

08/22/2024
Cade York

Multiple outlets including Sports Illustrated are reporting that former Tiger placekicker Cade York has been dealt from the Cleveland Browns to the Washington Commanders.

Cleveland used a fourth-round pick on York in the 2022 draft. He debuted with a 58-yard game winner in his first ever game. After the exhilarating opener, York scuffled. He made just 24 of 32 kicks as a rookie.

Last preseason Cleveland released York following a pair of preseason misses.

York spent part of 2023 on the practice squads of the Tennessee Titans and the New York Giants. He never saw regular season action. The Browns re-signed York this offseason. He’s 2-for-2 on preseason field goals this year including a 55-yard boots against Green Bay.

A three-year starter at LSU, York littered the LSU record books, setting marks for most for 50-yard field goals in a career (15), in a season (6 in 2020) and the only player in school history to kick two 50-yard field goals in a game.

Famously, York split the uprights through the fog at Florida to beat the Gators with a 57-yarder in 2020.
