Georgia baseball player Dylan Goldstein has sued the NCAA in an effort to gain an extra year of eligibility, filing a 40-page complaint and seeking a preliminary injunction that could allow him to return to the field as early as this weekend.
Goldstein’s lawsuit follows the same path that Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia set late last year to gain an extra year of eligibility. The lawsuit argues against a player’s time in Junior College counting against his or her eligibility at the FBS level.
This case is a little more unique than others considering Georgia has already played five games this season. Goldstein, a graduate student, started 41 games for the Bulldogs last season. Before joining Georgia, he spent two seasons at Florida Atlantic after beginning his college career at Chipola Junior College.
There’s no word yet on whether or not he will be eligible for this weekend’s action. However, it should be noted that his original efforts of filing a waiver request similar to Pavia’s was denied by the NCAA.
