At SEC Football Media Days, Harold Perkins, the standout linebacker for LSU, spoke candidly about the decision to move to inside linebacker and its impact on his career trajectory. “To be quite frank with you, I want to do whatever’s best for the team,” Perkins emphasized. “It’s not just about me; it’s about aligning with what’s best for our collective success.”

Having previously excelled as an edge rusher, Perkins embraces the challenge of becoming a three-down linebacker, aiming to contribute across all facets of the game. “I love it,” he told Matt Moscona on 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge. “I ain’t coming off the field on fourth down.”

Perkins said he is currently weighing 225 pounds, up from 217 pounds in 2023.

Off the field, Perkins has thrived in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA in interdisciplinary studies.  He hopes to pursue a career in media when his football days are done.

During the interview, Perkins also touched on his relationship with defensive coordinator Coach Baker, “He’s been magnificent,” Perkins praised. “A great person, a great human being. I’m learning a lot from him both on and off the field.”

Looking ahead, Perkins expressed confidence in LSU’s defensive capabilities and the team’s overall potential despite the departure of key offensive stars. “The expectation hasn’t changed,” Perkins said. “We have talented players stepping up, ready to make their mark.”

Perkins was named Preseason First Team All-SEC by the media.  He is a projected first round pick in next spring’s NFL Draft.
