Herb Jones likely done for season with shoulder injury

Pelicans star Herb Jones will likely miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury, executive VP of basketball operations David Griffin announced Tuesday. Jones has been out since Jan. 8 with a torn posterior labrum. 

In 20 games this season, Jones has averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. The former second-round pick out of Alabama and was named All-Defensive First Team in the 2023-24 season.

Jones in the latest blow in what has been an injury plagued season for the Pelicans. Zion Williamson has played in only 17 games this season. Before he was traded, Brandon Ingram saw the floor just 18 times. The team’s top offseason acquisition Dejounte Murray missed time with a broken hand and was recently lost for the remainder of the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. The team’s big three did not share the floor together once this season.

At 12-41, the Pelicans have the worst record in the Western Conference. Only the Washington Wizards (9-44) have fared worse than New Orleans.
