Kamara, Miller still absent at Saints Thursday workout

METAIRIE, La. – After missing practice in concussion protocol on Wednesday, New Orleans Saints linebacker Pete Werner was back out at practice on Thursday. Outside of that, there was very little change from one day to the next.

Here is the attendance at the portion of Thursday’s practice that was open to the media:

Not Seen:

QB Derek Carr (Left Hand)

RB Kendre Miller (Concussion)

RB Alvin Kamara (Groin)

DE Payton Turner (Ankle)

Sidework:

LB Pete Werner (Concussion)

Interim head coach Darren Rizzi said on Wednesday that the team will leave the door open all the way up until the end of the week for Carr and Kamara. But things still don’t look to be trending in the right direction for either to make a return this weekend. With one practice Friday and a walkthrough remaining on Saturday to go, we’ll see if they can quickly turn things around.

Rizzi also said that, barring any kind of setback, Werner would be back on the field at some capacity on Thursday. That turned out to be exactly the case, as the linebacker was off to the side doing some work with the training staff. He looks like he should be able to clear all the steps of the protocol in time. But Friday will be more telling.

It looks like another big workload for running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire could be on the way Sunday. Kamara’s door is still open, but Miller is not making the progress one would typically make through concussion protocol to be available the same weekend.
