Kyren Lacy died of self-inflicted gunshot wound during chase

Kyren Lacy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while driving during a police chase Saturday night in the Houston area. Harris County Sherriff officials released details of the event in a statement Sunday.
Deputies responded to a call at 11:15 p.m. Saturday from a female who had been in an argument with a family member–later identified as Lacy–who discharged a firearm into the ground. Lacy left the scene before authorities arrived.
Lacy’s vehicle was spotted at 11:35 p.m. When deputies attempted to pull him over, he sped off which led to a miles-long pursuit, which ended with Lacy crashing the vehicle.
The initial investigation has concluded that Lacy shot himself prior to the vehicle crashing. Authorities recovered a handgun inside the vehicle. Body camera footage did not indicate that shots were fired once the pursuit ended.
Lacy was set to face a grand jury on negligent homicide charges Monday in Lafourche Parish in connection with a fatal hit-and-run from December.
The Thibodaux, La. native spent the first two years of his career at UL-Lafayette before transferring to LSU where he spent three seasons. Lacy was preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft and had participated in LSU’s Pro Day last month.
