LSU Target, No. 1 DT Stewart Leaving St. Aug

09/06/2024

Jahkeem Stewart has confirmed to ESPN that he is no longer enrolled at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, a decision that could send shockwaves through recruiting circles.

The 6-foot-5, 270 pound Stewart is the rated No. 1 overall player in the Class of 2026 by three of the four major recruiting services.  He has long been rumored to be candidate to reclassify to the Class of 2025, with a desire to enroll in January.

“St. Augustine helped me become a way better man than I was going in there — it taught me a lot of things,” Stewart told ESPN. “My plan is to find a school that I’m looking for to really just help with my decision. A place that will better me and help make the decision I’m trying to make.”

Stewart says he plans to be enrolled in a new school by Monday or Tuesday of next week.  He could land at East St. John High School in his hometown of Reserve, La., while out of state options have been discussed as well.

The five star defensive lineman took visits this summer to LSU, Oregon, Texas, Ohio State and Auburn.  The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives LSU a 91.1% chance of landing the prized recruit.  LSU Associate Head Coach Frank Wilson is a St. Augustine alum and was pivotal in landing Leonard Fournette out of the school a decade ago.

LSU currently has three defensive tackles committed for the 2025 cycle.
