Redshirt freshman offensive lineman TJ Shanahan was arrested Saturday in College Station after the Aggies blowout win over McNeese State. Shanahan was found with not one but two drinks in the Northgate Bar District and was arrested for minor in possession and “failure to identify.”
You mean a 20-year-old college kid was drinking and trying to find out who they are? Yeah, same bro, and I’m 38. Welcome to college.
I mean what else is a 20-year-old dude in College Station supposed to do on a Saturday night? Stay in his backyard filming trick shots on YouTube with other YoungLife leaders? Someone already did that, guys. And there are only so many singalongs, and practices of yelling you can go to in that town.
And let’s also unpack the two drinks that were in the police report. Two drinks for one person tells me one of two things. One, one of his friends who was also underage put it in front of him and he took the fall for it. Or two, he was getting two drinks instead of just one to beat the line at a crowded bar. Since when were loyalty and thinking ahead frowned upon in this country?
Shanahan is facing an internal review during his current suspension per head coach Mike Elko. And that’s fine Mike, but you may not like it when you find out he was only drinking to hide the pain of playing for a coach who lost his debut to a team that just got beat by Northern Illinois.
