Marler Reacts: OSU Outlasts Hogs in 2OT

09/07/2024

By Chris Marler

We should’ve seen this coming. Arkansas and Oklahoma State just played in the drunkest game of the 2024 season so far. And of course they did considering their head coaches are Sam Pittman and Mike Gundy.

This game was like the Noah’s Ark of bad football. It had at least one–and sometimes two–of everything including: more than 1,000 yards of combined offense, four turnovers, four missed field goals, a pick six, and four 15 yard backbreaking penaltie, which all with less than three minutes remaining in the game.

We all remember Clemson teams in the early 2010s  “Clemsoning”. It was a term used to describe losing a game they shouldn’t have lost and usually doing so in inexplicable fashion. Clemsoning was fun for non-Clemson fans because Clemson was/is a team that was easy to hate.

Arkansas-ing is about to become a new version of this, and buddy it sucks so much more than Clemsoning. Arkansas-ing is not fun for anyone. It’s just sad and really difficult to watch, like watching your kid go through a goth phase or someone with bad teeth and too much confidence getting sent home on American Idol.

Arkansas lost in heartbreaking, horrific, and completely avoidable fashion to Oklahoma State Saturday, 39-31, in double overtime. In their defense, the Cowboys are ranked No. 16 in the country, and it was a road game for the Hogs. However, they had every opportunity to leave Stillwater 2-0. But, they Arkansas’d.

The recipe for success to win this game was simple: execute on offense, let Taylen Green cook, and shut down Ollie Gordon on defense. Arkansas did all of those things. Then they added more ingredients to the recipe. And all of it was Sh*t.

Arkansas’ struggles over the least few season have been especially tough to watch since their head coach is the most universally liked coach in America. Do you realize how difficult it is to make SEC fans universally agree on something? Sam Pittman is that likable. But, regardless of his Uber rating, Sam Pittman entered the season on the hot seat and games like today do not cool down any of the heat coming up from that lazy boy.
