Meyer shuts down Florida rumors

Florida head coach Billy Napier is on thin ice after his Gators fell to 1-2 following a blowout home loss to Texas A&M. Multiple outlets are reporting Florida boosters have already begun collecting money to pay Napier’s $26 million buyout.
It may not be a matter of “if” but “when” Napier is fired. And when that day comes, some have suggested a reunion with former Gators coach Urban Meyer could be in the works.
That, apparently, is not something Meyer would consider.
“That ship has sailed,” Meyer said on The Triple Option that he hosts with Mark Ingram II and Rob Stone. “I want that program to do well, so bad. I know so many people there and we gave a big part of our life to that program. But that ship has sailed.”
Meyer, 60, coached the Gators to two national titles from 2005-1010. He won the 2014 College Football Playoff with Ohio State and would retire following the 2018 season. The NFL lured Meyer back into coaching in 2021 when he took over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was fired after starting 2-11 in his lone season. Meyer currently works as an analyst for FOX Sports.
