Mizzou End to Miss Season

Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz confirmed Wednesday that defensive end Darris Smith will miss the season after injuring his knee in practice this week.

Smith is entering his first season with this Tigers after spending the previous two seasons at Georgia.  With the Bulldogs, the 6-foot-5, 240 lbs edge rusher played 16 games over two seasons with just seven tackles in limited playing time.  He was in line to start for Missouri, which is looking to replace All-SEC defender Darrius Robinson, who was taken in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.

Missouri is revamping a defense which saw five players selected in this spring’s NFL draft and defensive coordinator Blake Baker leave for the same position at LSU.  Baker took edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples and linebacker coach Jake Olsen with him to Baton Rouge.

The No. 11 Tigers open the season August 29 at home against Murray State.
