Report: Auburn making QB change against New Mexico
09/13/2024
Auburn will start redshirt freshman Hank Brown at quarterback Saturday against New Mexico, according to On3’s Justin Hokanson. He will replace senior Payton Thorne who struggled in the Tigers’ 21-14 loss to Cal last Saturday.
Brown saw his only action in 2023 during the Music City Bowl against Maryland where he completed 7-of-9 passes for 132 yards. Brown saw time in Auburn’s season-opening 73-3 blowout win over Alabama A&M where he went 3-of-5 for 96 yards and two touchdowns. As a recruit, Brown was a consensus three-star prospect out of Lipscomb Academy in Nashville. He was committed to head coach Hugh Freeze at Liberty but flipped his commitment to Auburn when Freeze left for the Plains.
Thorne is in his sixth collegiate season. He joined Auburn in 2023 as a graduate transfer from Michigan State, where he played in 29 games over three seasons after redshirting in 2019.
New Mexico is 0-2 on the season with losses to Arizona and Montana State.
