NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan announced his return for career season No. 15 in New Orleans last week. The expectation had been that in order for that to be the case, a salary reduction was likely a requisite. Now, there’s some confirmation that was indeed the reality. A reality that sheds light on just how much Jordan wants to finish his career in the Big Easy.

Per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the defensive end’s reworked deal reduced his cap hit from just over $20 million for 2025 to less than $10 million, thereby saving New Orleans more than $10 million against the cap this year.

Early estimates included the Saints reducing Jordan’s $12.5 million base salary by about half, saving an amount closer to $6 million on the year. However, to go beyond that proves a team-first approach by Jordan, who has made it clear that he wants to be a lifer, starting and finishing his career with the Saints.

Jordan spoke in-depth about this decision (sans contract figures) on his Off the Edge podcast. He shared that he was clear in a conversation with his agent that he wasn’t interested in playing elsewhere.

“This is where I should be,” he said. “My contract says I got another year on it, so unless they cut me, I’m not leaving.”

As for the pay reduction, Jordan put the conversations in the hands of his trusted agent, letting the team and his representation hash things out.

“The contract is what it is,” Jordan said. “I mean I could give the numbers but you’ll figure that out online somewhere, I’m not just going to give it to you. But at the end of the day, this is where I want to be. I always said I wanted to win a Super Bowl in the black and gold.”

Now that the numbers are indeed starting to “come out online somewhere” thanks to Underhill, a point is proven. Between Jordan and fellow defenders Tyrann Mathieu and Demario Davis, the Saints have a leadership core that has continuously put the team before self. This is just the latest example.
