NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Saints continue their offseason progress check on upcoming rookie quarterbacks. The Saints may be saddled with Derek Carr as their starter in 2025, but they are clearly keeping an eye toward the future of the position in the meanwhile, including visiting with Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers.

New Orleans has already held meetings with Colorado passer Shedeur Sanders and Miami quarterback Cam Ward at the Combine. The team was also present Monday for Ward’s pro day. Per SI’s Albert Breer, the Saints will follow up their Miami pro day visit by having dinner with Ewers later on in the evening.

In addition to the dinner, the Saints are expected to have a large contingent at Texas’ pro day in Austin on Tuesday. That pro day will feature not only Ewers, but other draftable players that could be a good fit with the Saints, such as cornerback Jahdae Barron, tight end Gunnar Helm, and safety Andrew Mukuba.

Ewers had a productive 2024 season with the Longhorns. He completed 65.8% of his passes for 3,472 passing yards and 31 touchdowns passes along with 12 interceptions. He was the SEC leader in both passing touchdowns and interceptions thrown.

The Saints still have Carr under contract for two more years, though 2025 is expected to be the final year of pairing. Obviously, winning can change anything in the NFL. However, the Saints are right to prepare for life after Carr. With second-year passer Spencer Rattler in the mix, expect New Orleans to look at drumming up opportunities for more competition when it comes to the most important position in the sport.
