While the world anticipates the New Orleans Saints potentially selecting a quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft class, the Saints facility on Airline Drive may have other plans.

True to his word from his Wednesday pre-draft press conference, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and the team don’t sound like they are in the business of reaching for a quarter.

ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry reported Friday afternoon that while New Orleans is indeed in the quarterback business, they are no guarantee to draft one in day two of this year’s NFL Draft.

“The question is when,” Thiry said. “And it is certainly no lock that they’re going to (draft a quarterback) with their second round pick.”

Why? Because the team sounds like it has more faith in head coach Kellen Moore, who has won games with reserve quarterbacks like Cooper Rush, Kenny Picket and Tanner McKee in his past. Thiry reports that the team has trust in Kellen Moore to “do more with less,” and therefore will be in no hurry to sprint to the podium for a quarterback when the value isn’t there.

“We are not going to force a quarterback,” a source told Thiry.

This matches perfectly with what Loomis told reporters on Wednesday. “You always want to take swings and develop the position,” Loomis said about quarterback. “That’s good business. I think the thing that you have to really resist is overdrafting one. And taking someone way sooner because that’s opportunity cost, right?”

On the most popular name on the board at the position, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Thiry was clear. Her sources are telling her the same that we’ve heard at LouisianaSports.Net, Sander won’t be the pick if they do take a passer on Friday.

“No,” Thiry said. “I do not expect for the Saints, based on conversations I’m having right now, to select Shedeur Sanders.”
