Report: Saints ‘not enamored’ with McCarthy after early conversations
By Ross Jackson
The coaching search for the New Orleans Saints looks to be drawing towards its conclusion.
As the team visits Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore in the City of Brotherly Love, the next in-person interview looks to already be on the books.
Per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the Saints plan to interview ex-Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy at the end of the week after having visited with Moore.
The report comes soon after an update from Tony Pauline of SportsKeeda that suggests “people in the New Orleans organization are not enamored with the former Cowboys coach.” Whether or not that is the feeling inside the building following early conversations between the Saints and McCarthy, it looks like an in-person interview is on and things will be explored further between the two parties.
McCarthy and the Cowboys parted ways this offseason as a contract expired. He spent the 2000-2004 seasons in New Orleans as the team’s offensive coordinator and later won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers in 2010. McCarthy would be considered a floor-raising hire for the organization which has missed the postseason in each of the last four seasons.
Once McCarthy’s interview with New Orleans is concluded, things could move quickly, and the Saints could be hiring their next head coach just before or soon after Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans.
