Tolzien, a former NFL quarterback from 2011 to 2019, brings both playing experience and coaching familiarity to New Orleans. After his playing career, he began as an analyst at Wisconsin, his alma mater, before landing and sticking with the Cowboys in 2020, where he overlapped with Moore.
When Moore and then-Cowboys quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier left for the Los Angeles Chargers, Tolzien stepped into the quarterbacks coach role in Dallas, holding the position in 2023 and 2024. The 37 year old coach now joins the Saints staff preparing to guide the team’s signal callers in 2025.
The Saints now have their offensive position coach spots filled. Their next hire on that side of the ball could be offensive coordinator. Nussmeier is expected to be the favorite for that role.
