Saints net extra selection in 2025 NFL draft

NEW ORLEANS – Less than a week after announcing the then-official NFL Draft order, the NFL has made some revisions. Among them, some good news for the New Orleans Saints.
After originally awarding the Saints no compensatory selections in the 2025 draft, the team will now receive the seventh-round comp pick that it expected following the 2024 departure of cornerback Isaac Yiadom, who the Saints just re-signed this offseason.
Per NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the NFL reversed the appointment of a Miami Dolphins compensatory selection to the Saints. Originally, the signing of former Dolphins wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. by New Orleans canceled out the pick they were expecting to receive following Yiadom’s signing with the San Francisco 49ers.
The NFL Management Council has informed clubs of a recalculation to the 2025 compensatory picks, awarding the #Saints a seventh-round selection, removing a seventh from the #Dolphins and sliding back the #Browns and #Chargers sevenths by one pick.

During the NFL Combine, Saints brass alluded to the expectation of having nine selections in this year’s draft. It was surprising to see that not be the case in the NFL’s initial release that went out on Tuesday.
Now, New Orleans will go into the selection process with nine potential picks to make. Surely there are likely to be trades and mobilization here and there for the team. But there seems to be an interest in casting a wide net in this year’s draft. We’ll see if that’s the route the Saints do indeed decide to go.
