Saints quarterback room unchanged as Joe Milton heads to Dallas

By Ross Jackson
The quarterback room has been a common topic surrounding the New Orleans Saints offseason this year. One big name often speculated as a potential Saints target has recently found a new home, but not in the Big Easy.
Former Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton was traded from the New England Patriots to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday morning.
Per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the passer is on the move in exchange for a late-round draft pick.
Milton had an electric Week 18 against a Buffalo Bills team with mostly reserves on the field. His 22 of 29 passing performance showed the potential the former SEC quarterback has in the NFL.

Dallas, who already has Dak Prescott as its bona fide starter, has consistently taken swings for backups. The team traded for Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers back in 2023 for a fourth-round pick.
Though some had hoped the Saints would pursue Milton, the team stands pat with its quarterback room of starter Derek Carr, young passers Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler and veteran backup Ben DiNucci.
They look to be active in this year’s quarterback draft class, doing their homework on several college quarterbacks this offseason. If New Orleans intends to add competition behind Carr, they will have to do so via the league’s selection process later this month as Milton finds his new home in Dallas.
