The streets are still a frozen tundra in the city of New Orleans, but the impacts of this week’s record-setting snowfall are finally starting to melt away for the New Orleans Saints.
The team had three in-person interviews scheduled for early in the week, but they were rescheduled due to a rare snowstorm in the southern United States. Two of those interviews have their new dates, one was canceled, and another has been added.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the following interviews are now scheduled:
- Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver was moved from Wednesday to Friday. He is set to travel to New Orleans on Thursday.
- New York Giants offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Mike Kafka rescheduled from Tuesday to Saturday. He will fly in on Friday.
- The Saints also added an interview with former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. He is expected next week. The Saints and McCarthy were already engaged in scheduling an interview earlier in the week, with plans to wait for the weather impact to clear.
- New York Jets’ new head coach Aaron Glenn will, of course, no longer interview with the Saints after accepting his new position in New York. His original interview was scheduled for Wednesday, but would not have taken place, as he took his head coach position before that interview would have taken place.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Saints also plan to expand their interview pool further next week.
Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore each completed virtual interviews with the New Orleans Saints earlier in the process. Regardless of their teams’ outcomes this weekend, both coaches will be eligible for in-person interviews during the bye week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl.
Per Rapoport, the Saints are expected to request those interviews for next week.
There could still be more candidates added, as well. A name like Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken would make sense as an addition if New Orleans intends to expand its search further. The team also showed initial interest in Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who withdrew himself from all head coach search processes until his team is no longer in the playoffs.
