Neal is a workhorse type back that has a ton of experience and has been very durable throughout. He appeared in 49 of 50 possible games in his four years at Kansas, with the only absence being an opt out at the end of 2024.
He has remarkable production at the position as well with 4,343 career rushing yards and 49 rushing touchdowns, averaging a touchdown a game throughout his career. He has also topped 200 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons with 17 total touchdowns in 2023 and 2024.
Neal could be an excellent complement to Saints star rusher Alvin Kamara. At 5-foot-11 and 213 pounds, he always looks to fall forward and fight for extra yardage. He picked up 814 of his 1,266 rushing yards in 2024 after contact. He also protects the ball very well, having only committed two fumbles in his last 502 carries.
The Kansas running back also adds another player that checks a lot of the boxes of this year’s draft class:
- Team captain
- Lots of games of experience
- Productive player
- Tough player that’s proven to be durable.
New Orleans now has two more selections remaining in the seventh round, picks No. 248 and No. 254.
