Saints set interviews for top coordinator candidates

NEW ORLEANS — Both of the favorites to land the open offensive and defensive coordinator roles with the New Orleans Saints are set to interview in the coming days.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach and former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is set to interview for the open defensive coordinator job on Sunday.
The #Saints and new coach Kellen Moore are set to interview former #Chargers coach Brandon Staley for defensive coordinator today and #Eagles QBs coach Doug Nussmeier for offensive coordinator early this week, sources say.
Two of them top candidates.

Staley once hired Saints head coach Kellen Moore as his offensive coordinator in 2023 with the Chargers. He now has a chance to join Moore’s staff in New Orleans.
Rapoport’s report also includes a scheduled interview for early this week with the favorite to land the offensive coordinator role beside Moore. Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier could make his return to the Big Easy after spending his early years with the team as a fourth-round quarterback drafted by the Saints in 1996.
Nussmeier and Moore have a lot of history together. The two worked side-by-side as an offensive coordinator-quarterbacks coach duo with the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles as the two traveled together across coaching staffs in recent years.
They could now pair up again with Moore as the Saints’ head coach providing Nussmeier his own promotion to an offensive coordinator role.
Both Staley and Nussmeier are expected to be the favorites for the respective roles. Staley coached the No. 1 defense with the Los Angeles Rams the last time he held the sole role of defensive coordinator while Nussmeier’s familiarity with Moore may be hard to pass up.
Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator Daronte Jones and Eagles’ defensive backs coach Christian Parker are also being considered at defensive coordinator. Miami Dolphins wide receivers coach Robert Prince interviewed for offensive coordinator on Saturday.
