Smart says wide receiver Young suspended indefinitely
10/10/2024
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart announced that senior wide receiver Colbie Young would be suspended indefinitely following his arrest earlier in the week.
Young was arrested for two misdemeanors – battery and assault of an unborn child Tuesday morning at 4:18 a.m. ET.
The two hadn’t been able to meet in person until Wednesday morning. Kirby Smart addressed questions on the incident and his future with the team on Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference.
“He’s been suspended indefinitely until this legal matter has resolved,” said Smart. “We can’t really comment any further on the specifics of it but had a good meeting with him this morning.”
Young is the seventh Georgia football player arrested since March, and the program has had more than 25 total players arrested since January of 2023.
Through five games, Young is fourth on the team in total receptions (11) and receiving yards (149) while adding two touchdowns on the year. A majority of his season production came in the last two games against Alabama and Auburn where he posted back-to-back 50 yard receiving games while hauling in three receptions in each.
Georgia hosts Mississippi State this Saturday.
