Steve Sarkisian: Texas will decide starting QB Friday
09/26/2024
Steve Sarkisian said Thursday he has still not decided who will start at quarterback for Texas against Mississippi State Saturday. The contest will be the Longhorns’ first in SEC play.
Quinn Ewers is still recovering from an oblique strain. Arch Manning started last week’s win against UL Monroe is his place, throwing for 258 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Ewers suffered the injury in Week 2 against UTSA.
“We’re going to decide on the quarterback thing tomorrow,” Sarkisian said. “It won’t be a secret. We’re not trying to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes. Just want to give Quinn every opportunity to see if he’s ready to play and what he looks like.”
Texas (4-0) is ranked No. 1 and traveling to Starkville to face the Bulldogs (1-3) who are facing a quarterback carousel of their own. Blake Shapen was lot for the season with a shoulder injury, meaning true freshman Michael Van Buren, Jr. will be making his first career start.
Texas and Mississippi State are slated for a 3:15 p.m. kickoff.
