Texas expecting Ewers to return against Sooners

The Red River Rivalry makes its debut in the SEC this Saturday, and despite being just a few days away, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian hasn’t outright said who’s starting at quarterback. However, he did hint that all signs point to Quinn Ewers being under center against the Sooners.
“If we had to play today, sure (he’d start), but I want to monitor him daily to see him with extended work,” said Sarkisian.
The junior has been out for nearly a month after an oblique injury he suffered in the first half against UTSA. In the three games he played, Ewers threw for 691 yards, eight touchdowns, two interceptions and a 73.4 completion percentage. Before the injury he was not only the favorite for the Heisman trophy, but some draft analysts slotted him as the potential first quarterback taken in next year’s NFL Draft.
Ewers has played Oklahoma only once in his career. Despite completing 31-of-37 passes for 346 yards, he and the Longhorns lost to the Sooners in Dallas last season, 34-30.
